Twitter suspends Christian politician's account for saying 'men cannot get pregnant'

A Spanish politician's Twitter account was temporarily suspended after tweeting that "man cannot get pregnant" because he has "no womb or eggs".

Francisco José Contreras was tweeting in response to an article about the first transgender male to have given birth in Spain. The now-deleted tweet said: "This is a lie. Man cannot get pregnant. Man have no womb or eggs".

In a Facebook post, Contreras, a member of the far-right political party Vox and a Catholic, explained that Twitter suspended his account for 12 hours arguing that his tweet was inciting hatred.

"The hateful tweet (which I was forced to delete) was one that said: 'A man cannot get pregnant. A man has no womb or eggs,'" he wrote on Facebook. "You can see this is already fascist biology. Next time I'll try 2 + 2 = 4."

Contreras included Twitter´s argument for his temporal suspension: "His account, @fjconpe, has been blocked for violating Twitter rules. Specifically, for the following reasons: Breaching rules prohibiting hate speech behaviour. Threatening, harassing or encouraging violence against others on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, nationality, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religion, age, disability or disease is not permitted".

Twitter also warned that any further infringement of the policies will result in the permanent suspension of his Twitter account.
