'Miracle' stops steeple ripped from church causing further damage

by Eno Adeogun

Strong winds removed the large metal spire before it fell into the Langley First Baptist Church's courtyard which is surrounded by three walls from the church's sanctuary and Sunday school building.

Rev Ken Klingler told local station WRDW that it was a miracle it landed without causing damage to any building or their stained glass windows.

Pam Smith works at the church and decided to leave early when she saw a storm was brewing.

She discovered that the steeple fell shortly after she left when she got a call from her husband telling her it had fallen.

"I just kept saying, 'oh my God' because he protected not only me but - he [also] protected everyone in the community," she said.

"I think it was a big miracle."

She added that the church had already received several calls from other churches and neighbours who offered to help support this clean-up needed.
