The Anglican Communion is preparing to launch an ambitious global initiative to establish or renew one million churches over the next decade.
The project, called Vision36, will officially launch on 11 November during a service in Nairobi, Kenya, which will be livestreamed to Anglicans around the world.
Organisers hope the initiative will encourage every Anglican to grow in their faith and every church to either establish a new congregation or undergo renewal by 2036.
The programme is being led by the Anglican Communion Commission for Evangelism and Discipleship, bringing together church planting and mission specialists from across the world.
Canon Stephen Spencer, from the Anglican Communion Office, said Kenya was a fitting location for the launch because of its growing Christian communities.
He said: "We are looking forward to the launch of Vision36. It is fitting to hold the launch in the Anglican Church of Kenya, a Province like many others around the Communion that is seeing church growth and new congregations being planted. The hope for Vision36 is that every Member Church will be able to share their experience and practice of church planting, to enrich our collaboration in sharing the Gospel around the world."
The initiative was endorsed by the Anglican Consultative Council during its meeting in Belfast earlier this year.
Churches will be encouraged to appoint a Vision36 representative and develop their own plans for evangelism, discipleship and church growth. Organisers said safeguarding will remain central, with new congregations expected to follow the Anglican Communion's Safe Church principles.
The initiative follows the Communion's decade-long focus on intentional discipleship and will also coincide with celebrations marking 2,000 years since the resurrection of Jesus in 2033.
The launch service begins at 7 AM UK time on 11 November.
