Gateway Church has announced it will discontinue Saturday services at most of its campuses by the end of the month, citing a need to better serve its congregation.
The change comes as the Texas-based megachurch continues to deal with the fallout from the resignation of founding pastor Robert Morris, who stepped down following serious sexual abuse allegations.
In a statement, the church said:
“We’re making a shift at several of our DFW campuses by hosting our church services on Sundays only... This adjustment will allow us to minister to and love our congregation well while prioritizing the needs of our individual campus communities.”
The church’s main campus in Southlake will continue offering both Saturday and Sunday services, along with midweek gatherings, according to CBS Texas.
The move follows reports of declining attendance and decreased financial giving since Morris’s resignation in 2024.
Earlier this year, church elders acknowledged that tithing “has not mirrored attendance,” prompting planned staff layoffs and a broader internal restructuring.
Morris, 63, has pleaded not guilty to multiple charges of lewd or indecent acts with a child.
The alleged victim, Cindy Clemishire, claims Morris abused her over several years beginning when she was 12 years old.
In a recent statement, Clemishire said:
“My childhood and the woman I would have become died that day in 1982. The person who abused me and the people who blatantly covered it up deserve to be held accountable.”
Morris is also suing the church for more than $1 million in retirement payments, claiming he was verbally promised annual benefits exceeding the terms of his official compensation agreement.
Church attorneys argue that while Morris focused on securing his financial future, his alleged conduct has plunged Gateway into a deep crisis.
