British singer-songwriter and 14-time BRIT Award nominee Craig David has released a new single called In Your Hands.
The song's catchy chorus follows the same tune and words as the popular Christian children's hymn He's Got the Whole World in His Hands.
Many have taken to social media to share their reactions.
While some are enjoying the song, leaving comments such as "Craig David releasing In Your Hands remix from the old school days was not expected in 2024, but it is a tune..." and "Craig David's In Your Hands makes me feel like I'm in Sunday school or an assembly – I'm here for it," others were less enthusiastic.
One user posted on X: "That In Your Hands by Craig David might honestly be one of the worst things I’ve ever heard," while another expressed confusion, saying, "Not sure if he's trolling".
Another labelled the song "bizarre".
It is unclear whether the song was purposefully written to emulate the original hymn or if it is about faith or love.
Some suggest the song is about God, as the music video is set in a barn or stable, with part of the lyrics being: "'Cause I've been praying before I go to sleep, I hear that voice inside of me, 'Cause you've been with me all along."
The music video has amassed almost 1 million views.
This isn't the first time nostalgic hymns have struck a chord with today's music fans. At this year's Glastonbury Festival, singer and teacher James Partridge drew a crowd of thousands when performing hit school assembly songs such as 'Shine, Jesus Shine' and 'Oil in My Lamp'.
