Primetime comedy show, Saturday Night Live has hit out at Donald Trump with a Holy Week-themed sketch.
The spoof sees Mikey Day, dressed as Jesus in the temple.
“This will not stand – I will rid this place of all its money,” he exclaims, before flipping a table of coins.
On bursts James Austin Johnson, dressed as Donald Trump: “Remind you of anyone? The money’s gone. Hi. It’s me, your favourite president, Donald Jesus Trump.”
The spoof goes on to joke about global tariffs, as Johnson says that the stock market died and rose again after three days, “and then on the fourth day it died again, possibly never to return.”
Johnson’s Trump character declares: “Many people are even calling me the Messiah, because of the mess I, uh, made out of the economy — all because of my beautiful tariffs. So beautiful. They were working so well I had to stop them.”
The scene ends with another jibe, as ‘Trump’ says many people only attend Church on Christmas or Easter, but “not me…. I don’t go on those days either.”
Many Christians were unhappy with the sketch. Conservative televangelist Lance Wallnau drew parity between the NBC comedy writers and those who mocked Jesus at his crucifixion, saying: “SNL mocks Trump and Jesus. They ‘know not what they do’.”
Another commented on X: “Will the comedy show’s ratings rise from the dead?”
