Christians furious at Pride parade for 'mocking' Jesus

A controversial moment at this year’s Belfast Pride has drawn strong criticism from Christian groups after a man dressed to resemble Jesus—complete with a mock crown of thorns—was seen dancing and high-fiving spectators during the parade.

The image, initially shared by activist group Progressive Politics NI, showed the man in a white robe, red sash, and large gold cross, posing with two women—one wearing a transgender flag, the other dressed as an angel with a rainbow halo.

TUV Equality Spokeswoman Ann McClure called the act “extremely offensive to Christians” and told the NewsLetter that “there would have been no question of Mohammed being mocked in such a fashion.”

She said the display confirmed her party’s concerns about the event promoting “contentious political demands.”

McClure criticized parade marshals for not intervening and urged public bodies—such as the BBC and the Civil Service—to consider religious protections under Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act before participating in future Pride events.

Progressive Politics NI has since removed the image from its Facebook page.

Premier has reached out to Belfast Pride for comment.
