by Donna Birrell

A popular and influential church leader, Pastor Sunday Chiedozie Okenwa has passed away at the age of 61.

Pastor Sunday worked as the Overseer for the Dulwich region of Deeper Christian Life Ministry of the UK and Republic of Ireland. He was also its Finance Director.

Announcing his death, the Regional Overseers of the Deeper Life Bible Church in the UK and Ireland described him as an “indefatigable comrade and a Gospel icon.”

Pastor Sunday is said to have been called to glory on 2 August while working as chairman of a national youth and young adults’ conference at Pontins holiday village at Pakefield in Norfolk.

Describing him as a “grand Gospel general”, Deeper Life Bible Church said :

“Pastor Okenwa, one of the most friendly and personable gifts to the Body of Christ will be fondly remembered for his unselfish, loving, and sacrificial forty years’ plus service for his Saviour, Lord and Master, Jesus Christ.”

Paying tribute to Pastor Sunday, Premier Gospel's Station Director and Head of Music Muyiwa Olarewaju OBE said :

“Pastor Sunday was  a remarkable church leader and dear friend whose tireless dedication and unwavering faith left an indelible mark on the church in Europe. His selfless service and profound insights illuminated the path for countless individuals, fostering a deeper understanding of faith and community. He demonstrated that one person's conviction can indeed echo across continents, transforming lives and shaping futures. Our prayers are with his children and his dear wife Mary at this time. Pastor Sunday will not be forgotten.”

The church has asked for his family to be remembered in prayer and said they would announce details of his funeral arrangements soon.
