Pastor checks out over 100 LGBT books from library in 'pride' protest

by Lydia Davies

Kansas pastor Kyle Lammott checked out over 100 LGBT books from Andover Public Library near his church in Wichita, aiming to remove them from circulation during Pride Month.

His actions, which he documented on Instagram, have sparked debate and criticism.

Lammott defended his actions as an attempt to "love your neighbors" by removing LGBT literature, especially children's books, from the local library.

His post showed a picture of bags and shelves filled with book titles such as The gay best friend, Be dazzled, and To my trans sisters.

The caption read: “It’s Pride Month, a good time to recalibrate what it means to love your neighbors.

“One way you can love your neighbors and your community is to gather some of the men in your church and go empty the local library of all their LGBTQ+ books. Start with the kids’ books and work your way up."

“This,” he concluded, “really is a great way to love your neighbors and serve your community.”

This stunt has been met with criticism online, with one X user commenting, "He sounds like a complete bigot."

Andover Public Library retaliated with their own social media post, writing: "Happy Pride Month to those who celebrate. We learned that a local religious leader is emptying libraries of LGBTQIA+ books as a form of protest.

"We should buy more to meet community interests!"
