International lawyer and Church consultant Harry Hagopian has told Premier he's hopeful the new government in Iraq will be able to tackle the rise of extremists
America's Secretary of State has welcomed the formation of a cabinet led by Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi.
He's a moderate Shia candidate and was favoured by both the United States and Iran.
Mr Hagopian told the News Hour hopes were high for Mr al-Abadi's government.
"I think it's a positive step and it's a step in the right direction.
"The fact that both the United States and Iran hailed this new government means there is something right with it.
"Given the grave dangers that challenge Iraq every day hopefully this government will be able to pull the country back together."
Islamic State (I.S.) militants have taken over parts of Iraq and Syria in a bid to set up a new Islamic state.
There had been widespread anger at the former government in Iraq.
