Mark Driscoll church to open in August

by Hannah Tooley

The former pastor of Mars Hill has revealed information about the opening in Scottsdale in a video message.

He has been leading congregations at the former Glass and Garden Church in Arizona in recent weeks.

In his most recent video Mr Driscoll talks about how the new church will work, including sound systems and special light equipment.

The pastor says he wants a special children's ministry as well as two Sunday services.

"Every one of the classrooms [is there] because of your help and service, and the generosity that has come to us through God's people," he says in the video.

He also speaks of ambitious plans including an outdoor area for children and a basketball court.

Referring to more than 1,000 volunteers that put in time to help build the church, he said: "You have ripped up carpets, you have painted walls, you have cleaned toilets, you are amazing!"

Christian Today has reported that he wrote a message saying: "Thank you to everyone who has given of your finances, prayers, and service.

"It's amazing to see how much can get done when hard working people pull together for the cause of Jesus Christ!"

The church he is using at the moment, the Glass and Garden Church, was built 50 years ago and seats 1,400 people.

His previous church work collapsed after accusations of misusing church funds, bullying, sexism and homophobia.
