A 51-year-old man has confessed to the killing of Pastor Bill Schonemann, 76, of New River Bible Chapel, and claimed he planned to murder 14 additional church leaders as part of what he called “Operation First Commandment.”

Adam Sheafe admitted to targeting Schonemann, telling FOX 10 he first scouted the church during a Wednesday night Bible study before returning the following Sunday to carry out the murder.

Sheafe also stated he intended to kill two priests near the Chapel of the Holy Cross in Sedona before he was taken into custody.

When asked if he felt any remorse, Sheafe responded, “Put me on death row, set the execution date for right now… I want it, and the taxpayers want it.”

He is charged with first-degree murder and is being held as investigators determine whether to pursue the death penalty.
