Man arrested over killing of Christian convert wife

by Hannah Tooley

Nasrin Abek, 35, was discovered in her apartment in Sydney with multiple stab wounds. Her husband Amir Darbanou, 42, was charged with her murder on Thursday.

The police were alerted after Mrs Abek's father allegedly contacted them after receiving a phone call from Darbanou on Wednesday evening.

The Sydney Morning Herald said the father contacted the police a number times before they went to check on the Potts Point apartment.

Nasrin Abek had recently converted to Christianity and was a hairdresser. She and her husband had been living in Australia for four years.

Speaking to the newspaper, Kings Cross Superintendent Michael Fitzgerald said police were able to recover what could be the weapon used to kill Mrs Abek from the landfill where rubbish from their apartment block was dumped.

He said: "We are not looking at any other suspects in this matter.

"It is alleged that the son-in-law told [the father] certain things which brought the concern from the father to speak with police today."

Darbanou has not entered a plea.

He will be in court again in November.
