Harry Styles has confirmed that he headed straight to St Peter’s Square to see Pope Leo named as the new pontiff.
In May, an image of him standing amongst Vatican crowds went viral, with fans surprised at the Grammy winner’s interest in Catholicism.
The Aperture singer told BBC Radio 1 that he had been in Rome at the time “getting a haircut”.
"I heard all these people start shouting, ‘Habemus papam! Habemus papam!’ People just running down the street," Styles said. "So, the guy cutting my hair stopped cutting my hair, and he was like, ‘Habemus papam! There’s a new pope!’"
“He finished up and I was like, ‘I’m five minutes’ walk from there,’ so I walked over there. It was wild."
Styles then joked that he is usually the person the crowds appear for – not the other way around.
“I was like, ‘Who’s this getting all this attention?’" he laughed.
Whilst the Grammy winner has never confirmed his religious views, he has a tattoo of the Bible on his forearm, as well as a small cross, and the number '777' - which often represents the Trinity.
