Fans of pop star Harry Styles have been surprised to seemingly spot him at St Peter’s Square, for the announcement of the new Pope.

Thousands waited in the Vatican City on Thursday for Pope Leo XIV to make his first public appearance, after becoming the 267th pontiff – and the first American pope in history.

The ‘Watermelon Sugar’ singer appeared to keep a low profile, wearing sunglasses and a baseball cap reading: “Techno is My Boyfriend”.

The former One Direction star is not known to have a personal faith – but frequently wears cross necklaces. His mother, Anne Twist, had a Catholic upbringing and remembers Styles’ grandfather praying to St Anthony.

Styles’ fans joked online that he is “everywhere but the studio”, as they keenly await his next album. Last month, the singer was spotted running the Tokyo Marathon.
