Eastenders inspires new gospel song calling for an end to violence
by Eno Adeogun
A gospel artist has been inspired to write a song highlighting gang violence after watching a story unfold on Eastenders.
The BBC1 soap led many people to tears after a character got caught up in gang crime and ended up being stabbed to death.
Singer and songwriter Carol Bertogal shared in a video posted online about how moved she was watching Shakil's (Shaheen Jafargholi) funeral scene.
She recalled: "I was overwhelmed with emotion as I watched the programme, especially as they used real-life mothers whose children had been killed.
"The programme also made me think something needs to be done to stop the youth from killing each other."
Bertogal, a Christian mother of two young children wrote the song Stop the Fighting has selected five charities that will benefit from all the sale of the single.
The charities are Word 4 Weapons; Mothers Against Violence in Manchester; Through Unity in London; Cure Violence based in Chicago, US and CHAYAH Development in Nottingham.
The song was released on 30th November on all music digital platforms.
