Carl Lentz, former Hillsong pastor, and his wife Laura are poised to reveal a "new chapter" as indicated in a video teaser on their social media, hinting at significant developments since Carl’s departure from Hillsong NYC.
The video, filled with symbolic imagery, was accompanied by a caption that read “JUNE 4… new chapter.”
Lentz' exit from Hillsong NYC in 2020 was marred by "leadership issues" and moral failures, including infidelity. An internal investigation conducted for Hillsong Church unearthed allegations of his manipulative behavior.
Despite these events, Lentz moved to Transformation Church in Oklahoma. Executive Pastor Tammy McQuarters told The Christian Post: “After two years of Carl being in his own discovery and healing process, he has shown readiness to use his God-given gifts towards the local church again."
Reflecting on his journey and role at Transformation Church, Lentz stated in a public letter in May 2023: “I’m not preaching, not overseeing people, my role is to help give perspective and insight where I can.”
Laura Lentz has offered glimpses into their life post-Hillsong through social media, celebrating personal milestones and expressing gratitude for the support from Transformation Church staff.
Carl and Laura participated in FX’s docuseries The secrets of Hillsong, with Carl sharing: “Part of the healing from that heartache led us to the decision to be part of a documentary...We were not interested in blame-shifting or responsibility deflection; we focus on my mistakes and the context for what transpired.”
He further shared insights into his personal growth through these challenges: “I can honestly tell you that when you get to a place of honesty and freedom in your life… It is so freeing. It’s the freedom I wish for all of the many people that I know that are called by God and wrestle with secrets and the feeling of not being worthy.”
