Christian rapper DC3 gave God the glory after performing his latest Spirit-filled track on BBC’s Later…with Jools Holland.

The 19-year-old independent artist from Northampton, whose birth name is Daniel Chenjerai, made history at the MOBO Awards in Manchester in March, becoming the first act to win both the Best Gospel Act and Best Newcomer awards.

The Zimbabwean-British artist’s 2026 to praise God for has continued after performing one of his latest tracks ‘Kunta in UK’ on the staple BBC music show.

The track sits 11th in the Official UK Christian and Gospel Singles Chart and has peaked at third in the Gospel chart.

The young artist posted on Instagram: “If you told me I'd be performing on TV at 19 only doing Christian rap for two years. I wouldn’t have believed you at all. Not one bit.

“I still doubt myself in moments but the way God is making me way for His name to [be] proclaimed. That I can’t stop.

“Eternally grateful for the love given to me so far. Every single one of you. I appreciate you from the bottom of my heart.

“Years of consistency and rejection has led to this moment and many more in God’s plan. All from God.

“Ain’t about me. Ain’t been about me. It’s an honour to be performing on Later with Jools Holland”.

The track references the story of Kunta Kinte in Alex Haley’s 1976 novel ‘Roots: The Saga of an American Family’.

Kinte is sold into the transatlantic slave trade as a young man from Gambia in the story, and the novel explores the impact of the slave trade on the African-American psyche.

The track is full of adlibs from British and American hip-hop artists, from Little Simz, Stormzy and JID, and interpolates Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Alright’.

Chenjerai has said that he was inspired by the 2017 political-commentary track ‘This is America’ by Childish Gambino.

DC3 made news earlier this year on BBC television in January, when he called Jesus Christ one of his heroes.
