A charity which has resettled more than 700 refugees wants 5,000 UK hosts by Easter.
Citizens UK and partners have been running a campaign called Communities for Ukraine, which has been providing support to people fleeing Ukraine for Great Britain.
The charity, which started the scheme when Ukraine was invaded a year ago, gathers faith groups, community groups, schools, universities and other co-ordinators together to make the transition for Ukrainians as smooth as possible.
Resettlement partners find host sponsors within their networks, enable the checking of host sponsors, promote high quality matches, ensure a robust approach to safeguarding, and support hosts and refugees when they arrive.
The charity, which runs the scheme with Ukranian Sponsorship Pathway UK (USPUK), wants to use the anniversary of the start of the war in Ukraine to reach its goal of 5,000 sponsors by Easter.
Yulia Zhdanova, 39, who came here with her mother and two teenage sons said: “The UK is a wonderful country with its compassion and care.
“Sometimes it is even hard to understand how you can take care of other people like that, to open your hearts and homes so quickly. I am sure that I will tell my grandchildren about this someday because it is very impressive.”
Rev Canon Liz Jackson, Associate Archdeacon of Berkshire said: “Through the partnership with Citizens UK we have successfully matched over 200 Ukrainians with hosts in the Diocese of Oxford. The support and training provided by Citizens UK has ensured we are meeting the needs of Ukrainians in our communities, along with the help of the many dedicated local volunteers in our churches and parishes.”
