Members of First Baptist Church Orlando are reportedly praying for a miracle after 85-year-old Lucy Pat Curl, wife of longtime pastoral care minister Bill Curl, was brutally attacked in their home.
According to The Christian Post, Lucy remains in critical condition at Orlando Regional Medical Center with a significant brain injury that doctors have deemed inoperable.
The Orlando Police Department reported that officers responded to a home invasion report in the Catalin neighborhood around 1:46 p.m. on Friday 31st January.
Pastor Curl discovered his wife severely battered inside their vehicle in the garage, honking the horn for help, and immediately called 911.
The suspect, identified as 55-year-old Ronald D. Davis, allegedly forced entry into the home and attacked Mrs. Curl before fleeing.
Davis, who was released from prison in June 2024 after serving a 15-year sentence for burglary and robbery, was later found sleeping in a shed nearby and has been charged with home invasion robbery with a weapon and aggravated battery on a person over 65 with great bodily harm.
Senior Pastor David Uth described the attack as "heartbreaking," noting the Curls' 52 years of dedicated service to the church, including 18 years as missionaries in Europe.
He emphasised the congregation's reliance on faith during this challenging time, stating: "No matter what happens around us, no matter the evil that comes against us, no matter the chaos of our world, our God is big enough to take the worst hell can do and bring good out of it."
Despite the grim prognosis, Pastor Curl remains steadfast in his faith, telling a doctor: "Do you know my God? He can do anything."
The church community continues to pray for a miraculous recovery, with Pastor Uth encouraging congregants to believe in miracles.
