Lois Evans, the wife of renowned preacher Dr Tony Evans, has died at the age of 70.
She was battling a rare form of cancer and was surrounded by her husband and children as she passed away.
Dr Evans, senior pastor of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship in Dallas, Texas, made the announcement on Instagram on New Year's Eve.
He said: "Just before the sun came up this morning, the love of my life, Lois Irene Evans, transitioned from earth and watched her first sunrise from heaven.
"I had the privilege of holding her hand as she was lulled into eternity. Our four children surrounded her as well. As she slipped away, we told her how much we love her, how proud we are of her, and how thankful we are for the life she has lived.
"We are what we are because of her.
"Thank you so much for praying for my wife and for my family. God answered our prayers this morning by relieving her of suffering. But the truth is, He has been answering our prayers all along. Lois lived beyond medical expectations, not once, but over and over again. God has been so kind to give us more time to make wonderful memories."
Dr Evans announced in April that his wife had been diagnosed with biliary cancer after having a routine scan.
Several Christian leaders have expressed their condolences on social media including Franklin Graham, Christine Caine and Jentezen Franklin.
The funeral will take place on 6th January.
Dr Evans asked people to consider sending flowers this week to their own pastor's wife in honour of Lois.
"Lois loved receiving flowers but she also loved giving them," he added in the tribute posted on Instagram.
"Because her passion was ministering to pastors' wives and making sure they felt loved and cared for, your gift of flowers in her memory would be a gift to us as well."
Lois was co-founder and senior vice president of The Urban Alternative, a Christian broadcast and teaching ministry which airs on Premier Christian Radio and on more than 1,200 radio stations in over 130 different countries.
