Exactly six years ago, the wife of Pastor Raymond Koh saw her worst nightmares come to life.
Susannah grew concerned when her husband failed to return from running an errand. That evening, she went to the police station to file a missing person report, but was instead ushered into a room where she was interrogated by Malaysian forces for five hours.
On the anniversary of his disappearance, she describes the moment she found out what has happened to her spouse.
Speaking to Premier Christian News, she said: “The next day, the headlines said that a pastor was abducted off the street.
“There was an eyewitness that said it was like a movie - the victim was pulled out of his car and about seven vehicles, 15 men in black balaclavas, surrounded him.
“They even recorded it. It seemed to look like a military-style operation.”
In 2011, six years before Pastor Raymond disappeared, his church was raided by police as they suspected people were being converted from Islam to Christianity.
Proselytization is illegal in several Malaysia states.
He once received a box containing two bullets and a death threat, prior to his kidnap.
However, there had been no recent warnings that Pastor Raymond might have attracted the attention of those working in Malaysia’s Special Branch.
When asked what she had learned during her difficult battle for answers, Susannah told Premier Christian News: “Next to nothing. It has been silence from the authorities, police and the government.
“There's been no updates, no news, no resolution, no one has approached us to tell us anything.”
More than half a decade later, Susannah Koh is still desperately seeking answers. Working with persecution charity Open Doors, she is imploring people outside Malaysia to write to their local politicians and foreign ministers to ensure the abduction is not just swept under the rug.
