A pastor known for his Bible prophecy teaching ministry has died from Covid-19.
Pastor Jimmy DeYoung Sr was hospitalised on August 7, less than a week after preaching his final sermon. He passed away from complications related to a Covid-19 infection on Sunday.
Pastor DeYoung Sr was known for hosting his own "Prophecy Today" radio program which was syndicated across hundreds of stations in the US.
A post on his Facebook page said God had "called a faithful servant home".
"Dr Jimmy DeYoung passed away early this morning at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga, TN. Judy, his loving wife and companion in ministry for over 60 years, was by his side until the very end," it read. "He is survived by a large family who loved him dearly. We covet your prayers at this time. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord!!"
Some have suggested that pastor DeYoung espoused an anti-vaccine position,
On a programme in February, DeYoung Sr interviewed his broadcasting partner, Sam Rohrer, who appeared to cast doubt on the vaccine's safety and appeared to entertain a number of conspiracy theories.
In December 2020, DeYoung said that it should be a "personal decision" as to whether Christians take the jab. He also insisted that the vaccine was not the so-called 'mark of the beast', as referenced in Revelation 13:16.
