Vicar stars in new Amazon TV advert

Rev Gary Bradley of Little Venice near Paddington features in a story which shows the relationship with him and a Muslim imam.

In the short advert they're seen sharing their knee problems before both independently buying each other knee pads as a gift.

Amazon says it wanted to focus on the inter-faith dimension of the relationship to show selflessness and sought advice from the Church of England and the Christian Muslim Forum to make sure it was respectful.

The advert, which will be aired during Coronation Street on Wednesday, comes just a week before Amazon launches its 'Black Friday' sales - an opportunity for buyers to pick up pre-Christmas bargains.

It's claimed British shoppers will spend £2.3 million a minute on 25th November online and in stores across the country.

Speaking on Premier's News Hour, Father Gary rejected suggestions that the advert glorified the commercial side of Christmas.

He said: "It's beautifully written - the idea that we each see the need of the other person.

"The actual giving of the gift is incidental - it's the thought that goes into it which is universal and to be cherished."

Fr Gary said he ended up in the advert accidentally after producers visited his church as a potential filming location.

He said: "I met them; they took my photograph and asked me if I'd like to be in it and I said 'that would be great'.

"I used to act many, many years ago but I've been a priest for the last 35 years and that's my life now."
