Two shot in Alabama church after 'domestic incident'

Two people have been shot in a church in Alabama following a domestic altercation. The incident took place on Sunday at Amity Missionary Baptist Church in Mobile, Alabama.

Local police said they received reports of shots fired at the church just before 2 pm before attending the scene and discovering two people with gunshot wounds.

The shooting did not occur during church services, according to reports. Church leaders and members of the congregation were in the back of the church at the time of the shooting.

Mobile Police Public Information Officer Katrina Frazier told the US Sun that "upon arrival, police officers located two individuals injured from gunshot wounds" before determining that "a known female had shot the male victim after church service".

"Both were transported to local hospitals for non-threatening injuries," Frazier added.

Witnesses say the church was celebrating its 100th anniversary when the incident occurred.

"We were in the back getting ready to eat," said witness Thomas Young. "And some of the church members came to the back saying there was someone [in the church] and you need to call the police."

Those involved in the shooting have yet to be identified.
