Trump to read scripture during Bible event marking national milestone

by Tola Mbakwe

Donald Trump is set to read from the Bible as part of a major US event this week, joining hundreds in a public proclamation of Scripture in Washington DC.

The reading forms part of “America Reads the Bible,” a nationwide initiative marking 250 years of the Bible’s influence in the United States. In a presidential message, the US president described scripture as offering “enduring guidance” throughout the country’s history saying God’s Word has led the nation “through every trial and triumph”.

The week-long gathering at the Museum of the Bible will see nearly 500 participants from 122 ministries read continuously from Genesis to Revelation between April 19 and 25, following an opening celebration in the capital.

President Trump is expected to take part via video from the Oval Office on 21s April, reading from 2 Chronicles 7:11–22, including the call for God’s people to humble themselves, pray and seek His face.

The initiative has been organised around the theme “One Week. One Nation. One Book.” and is expected to include senior US officials, alongside church leaders and ministry representatives.

Organisers said the event is intended as a moment of national reflection during a landmark year, with live coverage also being made available for audiences across the country.
