Donald Trump has used his Easter address to mark Jesus Christ’s “true humility” and “true love”, praising what he calls an “extraordinary resurrection of faith and religion” in the US.

The President said he was joining with Christians in celebrating “the most glorious miracle of all time,” believing that many more Americans would be doing so than ever before.

“In his life, Christ displayed true humility. In his death, he modeled true love and in his resurrection from the tomb, he proved that even death itself will not silence those who place their trust in Almighty God.”

President Trump quoted John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, for whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

“Eternal life,” he repeated, “such beautiful words.”

Speaking from the Resolute Desk, the President said he was celebrating “the extraordinary resurrection of faith and religion in America,” and his expectation that church pews would be “fuller, younger and more faithful than they have at any time in many, many, many years.”

“As I have often said: to be a great nation, you must have religion and you must have God,” he stated.

The influence of faith on the White House has become increasingly visible. Christian leaders have been filmed praying over President Trump in the Oval Office, with his faith advisor comparing the failed assassination attempt and political woes to Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross.

Religious symbols have been evoked during the Iran war, with officials pushing back on Pope Leo’s comments that God rejects the prayers of leaders who wage war.

President Trump added that all can live “with hope in God's promise, knowing that in the end, evil and wickedness will not prevail.”

“Happy Easter to all. May God bless you. May God bless the United States of America, our country is doing so well like never before. Thank you,” he concluded.
