Tributes pour in for controversial TBN founder Jan Crouch

by Aaron James

Jan Crouch died on Saturday surrounded by family at her home in Florida after suffering a stroke.

She founded TBN - Trinity Broadcasting Network - with her husband Paul Crouch in 1973.

Mr Crouch died in 2013, aged 79, from heart disease.

TBN is the third largest TV platform in the world and the largest Christian TV network in the world by over 60 percent, in terms of audience share.

Jan Crouch's ministry was not without controversy during her lifetime.

Her granddaughter Brittany Koper, who was briefly made TBN's Chief Finance Director, claimed in a private family lawsuit in 2012 that Jan and Paul Crouch misappropriated TBN's funds to buy a $50 million jet, 13 mansions and a $100,000 mobile home specifically for Ms Crouch's dogs.

Jan and Paul Crouch denied the allegations.

Matthew Crouch, Jan Crouch's son and the current President of TBN, said: "Those who battled for the Kingdom of God knew her as a fighter - someone who didn't give up, someone who fought relentlessly to get the Gospel around the world.

"To thousands of orphans around the world, and those orphaned in spirit, she was Momma Jan, quick with a smile, a gift, and a word of encouragement.

'"an Crouch loved many things, but most of all she loved Jesus, and now has seen Him face to face and has experienced His grace in fullness.

"She has taken a piece of our hearts with her, but it's so wonderful to know that Paul and Jan Crouch are together again, in the arms of Jesus."
