Far-right activist Tommy Robinson has announced plans for another ‘Unite the Kingdom’ rally in central London.
Drawing on Christian symbols in a promotional video posted on X, Robinson said the march would represent “Four Nations. One Kingdom. Under God.”
Robinson, real name Steven Yaxley-Lennon, organised a Unite the Kingdom rally in September last year. A follow-up carol concert in December was billed as a way to “put Christ back into Christmas”.
The September rally featured prayers and worship songs from a platform in Whitehall, with other far-right leaders giving speeches.
Wooden crosses, images of Christ on flags and banners declaring ‘Jesus is the Way, the Truth, the Life’ were held by those marching through central London.
Sally Mann, co-director of Red Letter Christians, told Premier Christian Radio that the use of Chrisitan symbols by the movement was an attempt to "churchwash racism".
The Baptist minister said: “I see no part in putting Jesus of Nazareth, who wasn’t an Englishman, into an agenda that wants to be covertly racist and use the cross as a sign of division, rather than a sign of Jesus’ all-encompassing love.
“Tommy would be very welcome in an East End church, where we’re not that impressed by all of this bravado and rhetoric. We want to see people living the life that Jesus lived.
“The East Ham church has been reinvigorated by migrants,” she added.
Former Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams was one of a number of church leaders condemning the march as using Christian symbols to exclude.
An estimated 150,000 people took part in the September march, although the carol service only drew around 1,000 attendees.
The protest is scheduled for 16th May, the same day as the FA Cup Final at Wembley Stadium, a major event in the football calendar which requires a significant policing presence.
The announcement comes just days after Robinson claimed to have left the UK after being named in a list of Islamic State targets.
Pastor Rikki Doolan, a Unite the Kingdom supporter, has previously told Premier Christian News that Robinson was led to Christ while serving time in prison.
