In a touching moment on his Curious Mike podcast, US NBA star Michael Porter Jr reached out with an invitation to church and prayer for Kat Emrick, a self-professed victim of sex trafficking.
The basketball player engaged in a discussion with Emrick, who bravely shared her story of surviving sex trafficking and how she has managed to move on with her life post-trauma.
Towards the end of their nearly hour-long conversation, Porter Jr asked Emrick if she would be comfortable with him praying for her. Upon her agreement, he delivered a prayer filled with gratitude and hope for healing.
"Dear Lord, thank you for Kat... I ask that you make yourself real to her, heal her in ways that she didn't even know was possible. Show yourself to her, make her whole, give her complete confidence and wholeness in herself, and just help her realise that things that happened to her are not her fault.
"There's no shame, there's no guilt there. You take that all on yourself, and just please show her that we love you, and we appreciate you."
Emrick, who said she had not attended church since she was twelve, embraced the prayer.
He then went one step further and said: "So let's go [to church] on Sunday."
Porter Jr. comes from a family deeply ingrained in Christian beliefs, church, and sports activities. His father, Michael Porter Sr, is the director of player development for the University of Missouri basketball team.
