Speaking on Premier Christian Radio Pastor Curtis Foley said: "People over here are angry. [It could be] an aim to try and hurt the tourism business so that it hurts the government.

"I've been in Thailand fifteen years. We've had a few [bombings] over the years, it hasn't been that many. The Thai people take it very well - they don't get upset about things very much.

"I just had a parishioner contact me and ask me whether we were cancelling the Sunday service and I said: 'no'.

"We want to continue to be a light in the world. When people do things like this, whether it's Isis or other politically motivated acts, we still need to stand for Christ."

An FCO spokesman said: "There have been multiple explosions in tourist areas across Thailand on 11th and 12th August.

"We are in close contact with local authorities and urgently seeking more information. We stand ready to provide assistance to any British nationals involved."

It is advising against "all but essential travel" to the provinces of Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat and Songkhla on the Thai-Malaysia border.
