Veteran televangelist Rev Jimmy Swaggart is in critical condition following a cardiac arrest on Saturday 14th June, according to an update shared by his family.
His son, Rev Donnie Swaggart, asked the congregation at Family Worship Center in Louisiana and supporters online to pray urgently.
In a Facebook post, he wrote: “On this Father’s Day, we urgently ask you to pray for Brother Swaggart. He needs a miracle from heaven right now, this morning. We must have the Lord intervene in this situation, and we need your prayers.”
In a second post, Rev Donnie added: “He’s my rock and my hero and he needs the Lord's healing power today.”
Swaggart, 90, has preached the gospel on television for nearly seven decades, longer than any other American evangelist.
He began full-time ministry in 1955 and rose to national prominence in the 1980s, broadcasting to millions of households weekly.
While his career faced major controversy following a 1987 scandal, Swaggart remained active in ministry, leading services and hosting broadcasts through Jimmy Swaggart Ministries.
The ministry has not released further updates at this time.
