'He needs a miracle': Televangelist Jimmy Swaggart critically ill

by Lydia Davies

Veteran televangelist Rev. Jimmy Swaggart is in critical condition after suffering a cardiac arrest on Saturday, June 14, according to an update from his family.

His son, Rev. Donnie Swaggart, called on the congregation at Family Worship Center in Louisiana—and supporters online—to pray urgently for his father’s recovery.

In a Facebook post, he wrote:

“On this Father’s Day, we urgently ask you to pray for Brother Swaggart. He needs a miracle from heaven right now, this morning. We must have the Lord intervene in this situation, and we need your prayers.”

In a follow-up post, Rev. Donnie added:

“He’s my rock and my hero, and he needs the Lord's healing power today.”

Jimmy Swaggart, 90, has preached the gospel on television for nearly seven decades—longer than any other American evangelist. He began full-time ministry in 1955 and rose to national prominence in the 1980s, reaching millions of households through weekly broadcasts.

Though his ministry was rocked by scandal in 1987, Swaggart remained active in Christian broadcasting, continuing to lead services and programs through Jimmy Swaggart Ministries.

As of now, no further updates have been released by the ministry.
