Talk show host apologises to Mike Pence for mocking Christian faith

by Tola Mbakwe

Mr Pence told Fox News' Sean Hannity on Monday that "The View" host Joy Behar called him to say sorry for making fun of Christian beliefs.

Mr Pence said he also asked her to extend her apologies to "tens of millions of Americans who were equally offended" during the conversation.

"I give Joy Behar a lot of credit. She picked up the phone. She called me. She was very sincere, and she apologised and one of the things my faith teaches me is grace; forgive as you've been forgiven," Pence told Hannity.

"I'm still encouraging her, to use the forum of that program or some other public forum, to apologise to tens of millions of Americans who were equally offended," Pence said.

On 13th February, Behar, who's also a comedian, attacked Mr Pence's faith on 'The View' after a clip was played with the former White House adviser Omarosa Manigault Newman claiming on a reality programme that "Jesus tells him to say things".

Behar said: "That's called mental illness... if I'm not correct, he's hearing voices."

Pence said he felt it was important that he defend the faith of millions of Americans against that kind of slander. Back in February he said his faith wasn't "unusual".

"I think I'm a very typical American - whatever your faith traditions, people understand that," he said.

"I just think it demonstrates how out of touch some in the mainstream media are with the faith and values of the American people."

Behar has not yet made a public apology to other Christians, and the ABC network, which airs "The View", said it's
"doing absolutely nothing" about it.
