The pastor of a church attended by Texas Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico has pushed back against a Daily Wire report accusing the congregation of promoting "leftist activism," funding abortions and hosting a transgender youth camp.

The Daily Wire, a conservative news and commentary outlet, criticized Talarico for his views on the separation of church and state and for reportedly saying he does not want to "claim" Jesus for the Democratic Party. The article also accused St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church of promoting “leftist activism” and undermining traditional Christian beliefs.

"From a review of the church's website, one would hardly guess that Talarico is interested in a non-partisan Jesus," the article states. "St. Andrew's, whose webpage features a cross draped in an LGBTQ flag, maintains a 'banned books' library filled with sexually explicit material aimed at young people and donates part of its annual budget to abortion giant Planned Parenthood."

St. Andrew's Senior Pastor Jim Rigby responded to the article in a Facebook post titled: “On Being Eaten By Cannibal Clowns.”

“I have to admit this is a fascinating time. The Daily Wire is now claiming that our little church is funding abortions and having a summer camp for transgender youth,” Rigby wrote. “It’s an unpleasant time, but also fascinating- like being eaten by cannibal clowns.”

Rigby did not mention Talarico by name.

He continued: “America has definitely gone through the looking glass. Now it is considered unpatriotic to even attempt to limit presidential power by the Constitution.

“Now anyone may be called a heretic if they presume to anchor Christianity on the actual teachings of Jesus instead of the rantings of televangelists and political moralizers."
