Statue memorialising Billy Graham to be unveiled

by Premier Journalist

A seven-foot bronze statue of Billy Graham will be placed at the US Capitol building in Washington next week.

According to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, it will be unveiled at 11am on 16th May.

It has been described as standing on a pedestal engraved with verses from scripture.

House Speaker Mike Johnson will be at the event accompanied by Franklin Graham, who is also head of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Samaritan's Purse, an international relief organisation.

Grammy Award winner and Christian singer Michael W. Smith is expected to perform.

"This is a great honour, and my father would be humbled and grateful," Graham said.

"At the same time, he would not want the attention on himself but on God's Son, the Lord Jesus Christ."

International evangelist Billy Graham, known as 'America's Pastor', passed away in 2018 at the age of 99.

He preached the gospel for 80 years and ministered to dozens of presiding US presidents.
