Special Nottingham church formed for the young

by Hannah Tooley

It is being created by the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham to reach out to young people in the city and better-engage with them.

The new congregation will focus on lots of topics relevant to young adults, such as developing relationships and creativity.

At present the diocese is finding a building that can host meetings and activities in a non-traditional church venue.

The church leaders will be Amy and Jonny Hughes, and it will be supported by volunteers from Holy Trinity Brompton, London, who have experience in developing younger resource churches in cities.

The pair have four young children and Jonny will be ordained in Southwell Minster on 3rd July.

Jonny said: "We are thrilled to be moving to Nottingham and look forward to working together with other churches and groups in serving the people of this wonderful city.

"We have so much to learn and are most grateful to everyone who has kindly offered encouragement as we embark on this challenging opportunity."

The Archdeacon of Nottingham, Venerable Sarah Clark, (pictured above) said: "We are very pleased to welcome Jonny and Amy and their team from Holy Trinity Brompton to our vibrant city.

"We are looking forward to being enriched by the particular gifts that Jonny and the team will bring to our engagement with younger people."

The new church will begin meeting in a temporary location in the autumn prior to moving to a permanent location in 2017.
