Priest 'key suspect' in Indian bishop kidnap investigation

Father Raja Reddy, a priest of the Kadapa diocese in Andra Pradesh, is among 14 people arrested in connection with the disappearance of Bishop Gallela Prasad (pictured).

Bishop Gallela agreed to pay two million rupees (approximately $26,000 rupees) for his own release and was left on a roadside after being captured last Monday.

He was blindfolded, robbed, beaten and threatened with death.

Bishop Gallela was taken to a home run by Father Reddy and the head of group responsible for his disappearance was run by the priest's brother, according to police.

Authorities say a number of those people detained have confessed and claimed the kidnapping had been planned, while a previous attempt was thwarted.
