Premier League footballer Taiwo Awoniyi showed off a Bible verse to celebrate scoring in Nottingham Forest's 2-0 defeat of West Ham.
After netting on the stroke of half time at the Forest Ground on Saturday, Awoniyi removed his shirt to reveal a printed reference to Ecclesiastes 12:13, in front of his fans and TV audiences around the world.
Above the reference read the words...Kilen F’olorun Pe” [ who are you taking God for] and the quote "In all darkness of time you became the light. Yeshua Glory is lifted highest.”
In the NIV, the Ecclesiastes verse reads: "Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind."
The win took Forest, promoted to the Premier League in 2022, five points above the relegation zone, wiith just over a third of the season remaining.
The 26-year-old Forest striker dedicated his side's progress this season to the grace of God.
It's the same verse Awoniyi referenced on Instagram after his goal against Arsenal in January, the club he grew up supporting.
The Nigerian international also celebrated scoring for his country in September by revealing cross-decorated shinpads from the Christian football fellowship Ballers in God, founded by Notts County midfielder, John Bostock.
