Prayer urged for Iraqi Christians as snow hits

Tens of thousands are in makeshift camps as temperatures plummet to -5c.

Canon Andrew White, known as Vicar of Baghdad has been describing the situation they face on Facebook.

Speaking about the picture (above), he said: "Northern Iraq Now. Just when you think the suffering can't get any worse then it does.

"The winter snow and cold is the worse this year than it has been for many years. All we can do is pray and keep giving and our team is trying to get back there."

Canon Andrew White is currently spending some time away from Iraq on the advice of the Archbishop of Canterbury who warned he could become a target.

Over the past year, extremists known as IS have been taking control of many towns in Iraq giving Christians the option to convert to Islam, pay a tax or be killed.

It's led to a mass exodus of believers who've left with no money and little possessions.
