Christian drivers who have found themselves asking the Lord for a parking space would feel at home in one Polish parish, under new car park regulations.
A church in western Poland has invited motorists to “pay” for their parking spaces with prayers instead of money.
The Church of St. Martin and St. Vincent the Martyr, located near Poznań, opened its recently renovated car park with a prayer-based price list. Instead of cash or card, drivers are asked to offer specific prayers based on how long they intend to stay.
“We chose a currency that, I would say, everyone can afford,” Fr Paweł Kaczmarek told Polsat News.
According to the sign, parking for less than an hour costs one Lord’s Prayer, while up to two hours requires an additional Hail Mary. Those staying for up to three hours are asked to pray one decade of the Rosary for drivers, while four hours comes at the price of a Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary for the parish. A full day’s stay “costs” one mystery of the Rosary.
Masses, services, and parish meetings are exempt, with the sign reminding visitors that “grace has no parking meter.”
“We don’t issue tickets – your conscience works around the clock,” the poster reads.
