Pope Francis: "If you can't forgive you are not a Christian"

by Hannah Tooley

During the homily Pope Francis warned against conflict within the Christian community and said priests who struggle to be merciful should not be hearing confessions.

According to Vatican Radio he added: "If you can't forgive, you cannot receive the peace of the Lord."

He spoke about priests that get impatient with those that come to see them and said they should ensure they are calm before hearing a confession.

The pontiff emphasised that the willingness to forgive is essential to a Christian community, saying "If you can't forgive, you are not a Christian. You may be a good man, a good woman.... but you are not doing what our Lord did."

He finished by urging Christians all over the world to show kindness and humility to others.
