The brother of newly elected Pope Leo XIV has dismissed claims that the new pontiff will take the Catholic Church in a radically progressive direction.

Louis Provost, speaking to Piers Morgan Uncensored, said: “I don’t think he is going to roll back the changes that [Pope] Francis made…but he will maintain that.”

Provost described Pope Leo XIV, formerly Cardinal Robert Prevost of the United States, as “probably more liberal than I am" but refuted claims that the new pope is "woke".

“I don’t know that I would even go that far to say he is woke,” he said.

“That’s his position as a priest in the church, as part of the clergy.”

While suggesting Pope Leo might support expanding women’s advisory roles, Provost ruled out major doctrinal changes on women’s ordination or same-sex marriage, stating: “In the Church’s eye, I think homosexuality, [gay] marriage is not right, it’s not correct.”
