The pair are celebrating 50 years together.
Bill and Ann Hurley worship at of St Mary's Catholic Church in Rotherham and were presented with a special Blessing when they celebrated their anniversary.
It was from Pope Francis and was presented by their parish priest Msgr Des Sexton.
The special blessing had been organised by the priest with the help of their daughter.
The Mass was held in the same church the pair married in 50 years ago.
Speaking to The Sheffield Star Mr Hurley said: "We were highly delighted to receive this blessing.
"It helped to place our fifty years of marriage in the context of the wider church.
"We were both blessed to be brought up in Catholic environments and were both involved as teachers at the Pope Puis X Catholic School where we met.
"We now have five children and three grandchildren."
They asked guests to give a donation to a Catholic charity instead of a present and as a result were able to buy a water supply for a whole community.
