Pope admits he's made 'mistakes' and says sorry to anyone 'offended' by them

by Eno Adeogun

In a letter addressed to men and women from his home country, the pontiff addressed that he has made mistakes as the head of the Catholic Church.

"Although God entrusted me with such an important task and he helps me, he didn't free me from human frailty," he said in the letter signed 16th March.

"That's why I can make mistakes like everyone else."

Pope Francis, who recently marked the fifth anniversary of his papacy, told his fellow Argentines, that he prays for them every day, and apologised to those who "may feel offended" by any of his actions.

He also thanked politicians and religious leaders from different backgrounds who praised his papal term, which he said demonstrated "unity prevails over conflict".

However, some critics have questioned Pope Francis' response to allegations of abuse within the Church, while others say he has failed to elevate the position of women in ministry.

He closed his letter requesting for prayers from believers, and of good wishes from those who aren't.
