Pastor sues McDonalds for alleged food poisoning nightmare

by Lydia Davies

A Brooklyn pastor is suing McDonald's, claiming a rotten chicken sandwich left him with severe food poisoning that sidelined him for over six weeks.

Pastor Rustam Irsaliev of St. Remnant Church in Brighton Beach says he fell violently ill after biting into a mouldy, foul-tasting Deluxe McCrispy during a 13th November 2024, lunch at a local McDonald’s.

According to his lawsuit, obtained by The Independent, Irsaliev vomited multiple times, rushed to the ER, and continued suffering from stomach pain, weakness, and other symptoms for weeks.

He alleges that McDonald’s staff dismissed his concerns, offering only a coupon for two free burgers instead of an apology.

The lawsuit accuses McDonald’s of gross negligence, breach of warranty, and even assault and battery, claiming the company failed to ensure food safety.

The pastor says the ordeal deeply impacted his faith and ministry, leaving him fearful of eating out.

However, he told the outlet “I do believe that my faith saved me.

“As the Bible says, if you believe in God, not even poison is going to kill you.”

He now urges restaurant-goers to inspect their food carefully and is seeking compensatory and punitive damages in court. McDonald’s has yet to comment on the lawsuit.
