It has been reported a pastor has been injured and his son killed during a shooting in Haiti earlier this month.

According to the Evangelical Theological Seminary of Port-au-Prince, where he worked, Stanis Stifinson was travelling through Croix-des-Bouquets with his family when gunmen attacked the vehicle.

The younger son was shot dead while the pastor and his older son are recovering from gunshots.

The seminary wrote on Facebook: “We have interceded before God for the country that is plunging into unprecedented instability, for the victims of atrocities that Haitian families know, and especially for the family of the Step Student Affairs Coordinator.

“The latter and his entire family were victims of an armed attack while they were returning home.”

It comes three weeks after the kidnapped of a group of 17 missionaries working with the Ohio-based organisation Christian Aid Ministries.

Meanwhile the US government is urging its citizens to “depart Haiti now” before the situation in the country worsens.

Authorities fear widespread fuel shortages could limit essential services in an emergency.

“The U.S. Embassy is unlikely to be able to assist U.S. citizens in Haiti with departure if commercial options become unavailable,” the government warned. “Seats on commercial flights currently remain available.”
