Pastor Matt Chandler has returned home after being admitted to hospital with an undisclosed illness.

Chandler, who leads The Village Church in Flower Mound, Texas, was admitted to hospital in the middle of the night earlier this week, according to an Instagram post by his wife Lauren.

Lauren had also been unwell and in hospital earlier this month.

"My turn to ask you guys for prayer," she wrote in her post. "Matt was admitted to the hospital in the middle of the night. Same symptoms that I had and still no answers. Thankfully, I am well on the mend and know Matt will be too."

Lauren did not reveal what the illness was but said it was "scary to go through".

"For those asking, it does seem we might know the culprit," she explained. "Unfortunately, they didn’t run the same test on me, so it’s hard to know for sure. Let me assure you that while it was scary to go through (because we weren’t sure what was going on with me in particular), we know that the symptoms eventually expire and, with medical support, recovery is more than possible."

Lauren later updated that Matt had returned home and the couple "got answers" about the mystery illness.

"Matt is home!!! Thank you all for praying for us! We got answers and Matt is well on his way to recovery. I am feeling 100%! We are confident Matt will make a full recovery in no time," she said.

Lauren said she will not be sharing the diagnosis "out of privacy".

"There are some things we just want to keep to ourselves," she wrote. "Our desire in making this public was to have people pray for us. Thank you for doing so."
