Pakistani police arrest pastors over alleged noise

Internatioanal Christian Concern (ICC) has said local Christians told them the police raided two churches in Lahore during their Sunday services: The Light of the City Church and The Pillars of Truth Assemblies.

A prayer leader at one of the churches claimed police had their weapons ready when they raided their church, whilst another eyewitness says the police made hate speeches against them, according to ICC.

ICC also says another Christian told them the police ordered them not to use the building again to pray.

In both churches, police damaged and removed the sound equipment. The police conducted the raids because they say both churches were misusing their loudspeakers, however one church member said at their church, the loudspeakers weren't working because of a power failure.

ICC's Regional Manager for South Asia, William Stark, said: "The Christian community of Pakistan continues to be treated like an unwanted religious minority in Pakistan.

Yesterday, the sound systems of two churches in Lahore were used as a pretext by local police to raid, harass, and threaten two Christian communities.

"This is just another example of how Christians in Pakistan are persecuted. More must be done by Pakistan to secure the rights of Christians, who have played a crucial role in the country's history", Mr Stark added.
