North Koreans ordered to celebrate dictator's Gran instead of Christmas

by Antony Bushfield

Kim Jong Un ordered the 24th and 25th to be days of celebration for the life of Kim Jong Suk, a communist activist and wife of the country's first dictator, Kim il Sung.

Born on Christmas Eve in 1919, many North Koreans are forced to visit her burial site in a 'mark of respect'.

It's believed tens of thousands of Christians are in prison in the secretive state but the few that are remaining were forced underground to celebrate Christmas.

If they were caught holding a service or prayers they faced being arrested.

Kim Jong Un is continuing his family's mantra of banning religion and all religious symbols as they attempt to convince the population that they are sacred.

North Korea is ranked in first place on the list of countries where it is most difficult to be a Christian.

Believers are routinely rounded up and placed in labour camps never to be seen by their families again.
